How much does it cost to open a fireworks shop? Budget 2026

One of the first questions we hear from people interested in seasonal retail is: how much money is needed to open a fireworks stand? There is no single amount suitable for every outlet. A small stall operating for a few days needs different stock than a point next to a large supermarket, and yet another arrangement is required for a location handling heavy traffic in the final days of December. The most important thing, however, is not to equate the entire startup budget only with purchasing fireworks. Merchandise is the foundation of the business, but beyond that you must prepare the sales space, equipment, staffing and funds for the ongoing operation of the outlet. What does the budget of a seasonal point consist of? When planning sales you need to account for several basic cost groups: stock, rental of the space, preparation and equipment of the stand, signage, advertising materials, employees, cash register and card terminal, and transport and logistics. It’s also wise to reserve some funds for additional purchases during the season. Additionally, the outlet must be prepared in accordance with requirements for selling pyrotechnic products. Not every rented premises or tent is automatically suitable for such activity. We cover outlet organization and related formalities in more detail in the guide Seasonal fireworks trade in 2026 – how to prepare a sales point?. In this article we will focus primarily on the budget and purchasing merchandise. How much to allocate to initial stock? There is no universal minimum amount that makes a point well-stocked. Much more important is what is in the order and in what proportions. However, we can discuss some approximate budget levels. The amounts below refer to the value of purchased assortment, not the total cost of launching the outlet. They are also not ready-made product packages nor a promise of a particular sales result. Stocking around 10,000 PLN With this budget you must manage the number of products sensibly. There’s no room to buy a bit of everything. The assortment should be relatively simple, cover basic product groups and allow servicing customers with different budgets. The biggest mistake with a small budget is fragmenting the order into too many SKUs. On paper a hundred different products looks attractive, but in practice it may mean one or two pieces of each. In a smaller outlet it’s often better to have fewer SKUs, but well chosen and in larger quantities. That way a well-selling product won’t disappear from the offer after the first purchase. Stocking around 20,000–30,000 PLN That budget gives more room to build a fuller offer. You can prepare several price levels in the most important product groups and provide customers with a real choice. That doesn’t mean you should fill the outlet with the maximum number of different items. The structure of the order is still more important than the number of SKUs. A good point should have products for a customer who wants to spend a few dozen zlotys, but also for a person looking for a larger set or a mortar. Stocking around 30,000–50,000 PLN With a larger budget you can broaden the offer and increase stock of products that will account for a significant share of sales. There’s also greater scope to include mid and higher price ranges. However, it’s important that budget growth does not automatically lead to an increase in the number of products. Sometimes an additional 10,000 PLN is better spent increasing quantities of selected groups than introducing another several dozen SKUs. Stocking over 50,000 PLN For larger outlets, not only the initial order but also the replenishment plan becomes increasingly important. A large outlet does not need to have everything on the first day of sales. What matters is securing appropriate stock levels and the ability to respond to customer interest, especially in the final days of the season. When planning a larger order you must also consider the allowable quantity of products in a given type of storage space. The purchase value alone does not tell you the gross weight of the merchandise, and that is the metric that matters for certain storage limits. Don’t spend the entire budget on the first order This is especially important in the first season. If all available funds are spent on stock, the entrepreneur loses the ability to respond to actual sales. Sales can vary depending on location. A product that rotates very well in one outlet may not sell identically in another place. Therefore it’s worth leaving part of the funds for possible reorders. It may turn out that after a few days it becomes clear which price range or which product group is starting to run low. Of course, the possibility to replenish stock must be agreed with the wholesaler in advance. At the end of December availability and delivery times are crucial, and not every product can be ordered at the last minute. The biggest mistake: buying according to your own taste People starting retail very often choose products as if they were buying fireworks for themselves. What the owner likes does not necessarily meet the needs of their customers. Product videos online can be even more misleading. A product may have spectacular footage and thousands of views, yet the average customer at a physical outlet may choose something completely different. In seasonal retail factors such as price, how the product is presented, availability of several price levels and the ability to easily explain differences between items matter. Therefore it’s not worth building the entire stock based on what is popular on YouTube or TikTok. We write more about proper product selection in the article Which fireworks sell best in seasonal trade?. A small budget does not mean the cheapest products If the budget is limited, a natural impulse may be to look only for the cheapest available products. Yet a seasonal outlet customer does not always seek the lowest price. Much more important is preparing an offer across price levels. If a category contains only the cheapest product, you lose the chance to serve a customer who was willing to pay more. If you stock only expensive products, you limit choices for people with smaller budgets. The assortment should therefore form a logical price structure in which the seller can offer the customer several sensible options. Value of stock is not the only thing that counts An outlet stocked with 40,000 PLN worth of goods does not necessarily have to achieve better results than one stocked for 25,000 PLN. If the initial order was poorly constructed, a bigger budget simply means more merchandise that may remain after the season. Therefore before setting the purchase value, analyze the location, expected foot traffic, length of sales period, local competition, available capital and the ability to replenish stock. Also remember that turnover is not profit. Even large sales can yield disappointing results if operating costs are too high. We explain this in more detail in the guide Is selling fireworks profitable? Costs and profit in 2026. How does Fajerwerki Lider stock an outlet? We cooperate with clients in several ways. An experienced seller can use our B2B platform independently and build an order according to their own needs. For those starting out in retail we can offer comprehensive stocking based on a previously agreed budget and the nature of the outlet. In that case the client consciously relies on our experience in selecting the assortment. We do not prepare free sample baskets containing a ready-made product list for later comparison with offers from several wholesalers. Assortment selection is part of our know-how and an element of real cooperation. We can also combine comprehensive stocking with product training conducted at our premises before the season starts. We describe all options in the article Seasonal fireworks trade – how cooperation with the wholesaler Fajerwerki Lider looks?. So how much money is really needed? As much as corresponds to the scale of the planned outlet, but the budget must be well allocated. It’s better to start with sensibly constructed stock and have the ability to replenish goods than to allocate all capital to the first order. In seasonal trade the number of cartons standing in early December is not yet a measure of success. Much more important is how many products you manage to sell, what costs the outlet incurs, and how much merchandise remains after the season ends.
