A smooth skirt without knurling and a rounded head are designed for one thing: minimizing air resistance and producing a flatter trajectory. What a smooth ball means in practice The lack of knurling on the skirt means the pellet loses less energy to friction in the barrel. The rounded head additionally reduces aerodynamic drag, so beyond 20 meters the drop is noticeably less than with classic diabolo pellets with a flat head.
